Kolkata, vormals Kalkutta, wird von Ihren Einwohnern “Stadt der Freude” genannt. Ein großer Teil der Bevölkerung lebt jedoch in bitterer Armut, es verhungern noch immer Menschen auf der Straße, es mangelt an Schulen und sozialen Einrichtungen für alle Bevölkerungsschichten. Die offizielle Einwohnerzahl liegt bei 15 Millionen, inoffizielle Schätzungen gehen von mehr als 30 Millionen Einwohnern aus.
Der Fotograf Christian Hager verbrachte sieben Tage während eines Fotoworkshops in Kolkata. Seine Bilder verdichten in journalistischen und künstlerischen Sichtweisen, Stimmungen und Eindrücke dieser unglaublichen Stadt.

Seven Days in Kolkata
Kolkata, formerly Calcutta, is called by your residents “City of Joy”. However, a large part of the population lives in abject poverty, still starving people on the street, there is a lack of schools and social facilities for all sections of society. The official population is 15 millions, unofficial estimates of more than 30 millions inhabitants.
The photographer Christian Hager spent seven days during a photo workshop in Kolkata. His pictures condense in journalistic and artistic perspectives, moods and impressions of this incredible city.
